Mit Unglauben und tiefer Trauer mussten wir heute erfahren, dass unser SCD-Mitglied, Tauchkollege und Freund aus Down Under, Rick Nash, nach längerem Kampf gegen eine Krankheit, am vergangenen Freitag verstorben ist.

Rick hat uns mehrmals nach Frankreich begleitet und war durch sein fröhliches, zugängliches Wesen schnell bei allen Kollegen sehr geschätzt und beliebt. Unvergessen sein entzückter Ausruf nach der Rückkehr aus der Ressel: Great, no silt, no silt! Und ebenso unvergessen bleibt, dass er meistens ohne Handschuhe getaucht ist!

Rick war zuletzt Training Director des Australischen Höhlentauchverbandes CDAA.

Wir werden Rick immer in ehrender Erinnerung behalten! Mögest du eine jungfräuliche Höhle finden, mit einem Reel mit unendlich viel Leine in der Hand und und unendlich viel Gas auf dem Rücken!

Vale Rick Nash

It is with sadness I inform members of the passing of Rick Nash (CDAA 4187) in the early hours of Friday 5 April 2024 following some months battling illness in Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide.

I first met Rick around 2005 at Glenelg Scuba Diving Club here in Adelaide.

After joining myself and fellow CDAA member Ian Taylor (CDAA 3568) on a Mt Gambier introduction to cave diving club weekend in 2005, Rick completed his CDAA Basic Cave certification, which I think might have still been called Cavern-Sinkhole back then, in the early part of 2006.

He then did his CDAA Cave course early 2007 and in July 2007 Rick, Ian, Suzie Tayor (CDAA 3833), Karl Schneemilch (CDAA 4082), and I spent a few weeks diving the Nullarbor caves. 

Rick, Karl & I did our CDAA Advanced Cave course, actually the last to be named “Penetration”, in October 2008.

Rick subsequently cave-dived extensively in Europe and North America, meeting his now wife Monika Nash (CDAA 4765) on one such trip.  They married in May 2017.

Over the years we have had many awesome weekends in The Mount and some very memorable dives, mostly remembered for the good bits but there were a few gnarly “learning moments” as well!

Rick served the CDAA as Publications Director and most recently National Director, albeit briefly.

He is survived by his wife Monika.

Rickers, I will miss our sojourns to The Mount and look back with great fondness on those we had, but will be ever grateful that they happened.
